When to Plan Hair, Nail, and Skin Appointments Before a Holiday Event

The best holiday appointments are planned backward from the event itself. You want your color to look fresh, your skin needs time to calm after a facial, and nails look sharpest when they're just done, so each service has its own sweet spot. Here's the timeline we share with guests at Hazel Salon & Spa in East Longmeadow, so everything looks its best on the night that matters, whether that's a work party, a holiday card photo, or New Year's Eve.

Six to eight weeks out: facials

Skin changes build over several weeks, so if you'd like a series of facials before a big event, this is the time to start. Two or three appointments spaced a few weeks apart give your skin room to respond. Plan your last facial about a week before the event so any redness from extractions has time to settle, and save new peels or treatments for after the holidays rather than the final week.

Three to four weeks out: color and extensions

Color tends to look its most natural a week or two after your appointment, once you've washed it a few times and the shine has settled in. If you're adding extensions or are due for a move-up, give yourself at least two weeks so they feel like your own hair by the time you're getting dressed.

One to two weeks out: your haircut

A cut about a week ahead gives the shape a few days to relax into itself. If you're having color and a cut, they can happen at the same appointment, so simply plan it on the color timeline.

Three to five days out: waxing

Brows and other waxing look best a few days before, once any redness has faded but before regrowth starts to show. If it's your first time being waxed, give yourself a full week in case your skin wants a little extra time.

One to two days out: nails

Builder gel and polish look their sharpest within a day or two of the event. If you already wear builder gel, a fill a few days ahead keeps the shape clean through the whole week.

The day of: a blowout

A blowout with a set curl holds through a long night and still looks good at brunch the next morning. Come in with clean, fully dry hair for the longest hold.

If you have a date in mind, reserve your appointments together, and we'll help you space them so each one lands at the right time.

We can't wait to see you,

The Hazel Team
